- Who are you guys?
- I'm Del Harvey, an administrator and the law enforcement liaison for the Perverted Justice Foundation. Several Perverted Justice volunteers helped with the research, and a talented friend of mine, Audrey, designed the website and maintains it.
- What's the point of this site?
- To provide accurate information and relevant resources for anyone who is or has been in an abusive situation or for those trying to help someone in an abusive situation.
- How do I delete my internet history?
- Check out our Internet History Management page for a step-by-step guide (including pictures!). The guides are organized by browser and platform. You may want to clear your internet history if you are currently in an abusive relationship and concerned about the consequences of an abuser discovering certain sites (such as this one) in your history.
- What if it's not rape; (s)he's just going too fast?
- You and you alone know what you are comfortable with and ready for. If someone is pressuring you to do something that you do not want to do, tell that person to stop and that you're not ready. If that person isn't okay with you feeling that way, then quite honestly, that person probably isn't a very good person to be with since he or she lacks respect for your feelings about the situation.
- What's the difference between sexual harassment and rape?
- Rape is forcing someone to have sex through physical force or duress or forcing any act of sexual intercourse upon a person. Sexual harassment is generally someone making unwanted sexual advances or sexually offensive remarks -- so, essentially, while sexual harassment may happen prior to rape, rape is the actual act of forcing someone (whether by physical means or by bullying) to engage in any type of sexual intercourse or activity.
- Can it be sexual harassment if you're dating?
- Absolutely. Any time someone sexually pressures you or makes you feel uncomfortable with sexual comments or sexual "jokes," it's sexual harassment, even if you're dating.
- Can it be rape if you are dating?
- Yes, the same holds true if you're dating someone; any time there is sexual contact without consent, it's rape.
- Can it be rape if you are married?
- Most definitely. Any time there is sexual contact without consent, it's rape -- even if you consented on previous occasions or since then. It's not your "wifely" or "husbandly" duty to have sex when you do not want it or are incapable of consenting because, for example, you're drunk or asleep. To have sex forced on you at such times is definitely rape. In fact, the bottom line is that any time sex is forced it is illegal, regardless of your relationship to your abuser. Therefore, don't hesitate to report rape, even when your abuser is your spouse.
- Can it be rape if you're male and the person who instigated the sexual contact is female?
- Yes. Again, any time there is sexual contact without consent, it is considered rape.
- How can I find a domestic violence shelter?
- Try www.rainn.org; the people there should be able to help you find a domestic violence shelter in your area.
